The Gold Star Award is the only plain English award that has been specially designed to meet the needs of the public and voluntary sectors.

The Gold Star Award tells the people who use your services that you are making every effort to communicate with them in a language they can understand. It is visible proof of your commitment to use plain English in all forms of communication. It shows that you want to make people's lives easier by producing reports, strategy documents and other information in a way that meets their needs.

We know that turning documents into plain English can be difficult and expensive. It can also take up time in your busy working lives. We understand that:

  • you are required by law to include some details in your communications and that, sometimes, these may include complex legal jargon;
  • you have limited budgets, yet you are under pressure to find more ways of saving money and keeping costs down;
  • you may not have the time and resources to carry out a plain English review; and
  • you have very different customers with very different needs and expectations.

A Gold Star Award costs £250 plus VAT for the life of the document. If you submit four documents at the same time, you will pay only £200 plus VAT for each Gold Star Award.
